Rachel Welles is a photographer and visual artist currently based in San Francisco, California.
Rachel’s work attempts to document emotional experiences of space, often with historical significance in relation to its geography. She is fixated on locations that she is able to revisit over long periods of time. Each revisit offers new observations to be documented – be it a field of grass or an urban street corner.
Her memories of childhood travels are the driving force behind presenting her geographical discoveries. Rachel has childhood roots in Southeast Asia, including Taipei, Thailand and Hong Kong – all of which are examples of places that are constantly developing at a rapid rate. By documenting her experiences, Rachel hopes to preserve and create new emotional histories of place.
She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from California College of the Arts with distinction in 2010.
Rachel is currently available for freelance and consultant work. [view C.V + resume]
